If this is a situation that seems familiar, then you would definitely want the secret behind looking good in pictures. Believe it or not, there are some tips that can make even the least photogenic of people look like a star in front of the camera.

Looking Good in Photos

Not all of us can afford a stylist, nor can we hire a professional makeup artist. So, then what does a poor (wo)man do? Well, these tips tell you how you can look fabulous in pictures without getting the photoshopping gear out.

Compare and Contrast

For this, it is a good idea to get a copy of a photograph where you have looked your best. Also pick out the photograph that you think, you looked positively horrendous in. Now place them side by side, and study them. What sets both apart?
You will definitely understand what goes wrong when you pose for family portraits or school pictures. More often than not the reasons for a bad photograph is wrong attire, bad makeup, showing off the wrong profile, insufficient lighting, etc. Either a combination of these reasons, or one of them is more than enough to ruin a photograph.
Once you have figured out what is wrong with your photograph, it is easy to go the right way.
Work on the areas that you recognized as flaws when you looked at your bad photos. If you know that you are in for a photography session, then pick out your clothes with care. Choose an attire that will flatter your natural assets. Stay away from clothes that highlight your flaws. Avoid large prints, at the same time do not go in for monochromatic clothes.

Wearing the Right Clothes

Try to stick to solid colors and neutrals. Look for clothing silhouettes that drape well. Loose, baggy clothing more often than not makes you appear much larger than you are. Wear clothes in a color palette that suit your skin tone.
Do not overdo makeup but at the same time do not pose for photographs without any makeup at all. You need makeup to enhance your appearance under harsh lights.

Posing Correctly

Learn how to pose. You need to keep your face in what is known as equilibrium.Your eyes need to be relaxed, your lips need to be slightly clenched. When you smile, your upper and lower molars should touch each other.
Smile; this is very important as you definitely would not want to look morose in your pictures. Understand which profile works the best for you. You need to know what your best angle is and how you should pose. This can be very important if you want to know how to always look good in pictures.
Use a digital camera to click photographs of yourself in different poses and then decide which is the best pose for your purpose. Always pose in a manner that your body is aligned three quarters towards the camera, with one shoulder placed close to the camera. Tilt your head slightly, but do not overdo this.
Your posture is another important thing to focus on. If you are sitting down for the photograph, then ensure that you sit up straight. Good posture works very well in photographs and makes your appearance smarter. Avoid looking like you are trying too hard in the photograph. The more comfortable you look, the better the photograph will turn out to be.
While many people believe that it is impossible to learn to be photogenic, this is far from the truth. You can easily learn how to accentuate and enhance your best features in front of the camera. And at the end of the day if you are still not happy with your photographs, you can always become friends with a photo-editing software. They will never fail you.
